welcome to our kitchen!!!

so i have been promising to post more pics of our lil' apartment here, and today it is the kitchen's turn :) let's just say it's a much happier kitchen today than it was a couple of weeks ago...

this is our kitchen a couple of weeks ago...notice the white walls, the white cabinets, the white stove, the white refrigerator, the white countertops, etc.

not anymore!!!! i painted the walls green, and absolutely love it :) and you'll notice my lovely little island is coming right along :) still waiting for drawers, but hopefully that will happen this weekend, and i'll post pics of the whole thing

just a few more close ups here :) still working on the whole decorating thing, but it's commin' right along :)

and to top it all off, my amazing husband made me this cute lil' stool!!!
now i can reach the top cabinets :)

soooooooo...i am now on the hunt for some recipes to try out this lil' kitchen of ours :) so for anyone who reads this, i would absolutely love it if you would leave me a comment with one of your favorites!!!

  1. Love your kitchen! Al's going to remodel our laundry room this winter and that shade of green is what I was thinking about for our walls. As far as recipes are concerned - for your 50 degree days :( - Taco Soup smells and tastes yummy on cold days. Just fry up hamburger and add your Taco seasoning. Add a can of tomato juice, can of corn or kidney beans, and salt to taste. I always top it off with a spoonful of sour cream or a sprinkling of cheddar cheese. The kids ask for this a lot during the winter months. Tastes good with buttered dinner rolls. - Sandra

  2. Cinnamon Rolls
    1½ cups warm water
    4 Tablespoons yeast
    ½ cup sugar
    2 teaspoons salt
Put together and let stand until bubbly.
    Pour:
    3 cups boiling water over
    4 sticks margarine
    1 ½ cups sugar
Let stand until lukewarm and add to yeast mixture.
    Add:
    8 beaten eggs
    15-16 cups flour (approximately)
Place in large greased bowl and let rise 2 hours. Roll out on floured board. Spread melted butter or margarine over top and sprinkle generously with brown sugar, white sugar, and (lots of) cinnamon. Roll up and cut into ¾ to 1 inch segments. Place in greased pans and let rise 1 hour or until doubled in size. Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes. Do not overbake. If you gently touch them and they feel firm, they are ready to take out of oven.

    Sticky Bun Topping
    2 sticks margarine or butter
1 (2 pound) bag brown sugar
    7/8 cup water
Stir ingredients together in a saucepan. Boil only until sugar is dissolved. Pour in bottom of baking pan and add cinnamon rolls.

    Caramel Icing
    Melt: 1# margarine
    Add: 1 bag brown sugar
    1 cup milk
Boil well and let cool some.
Add 1 bag powdered sugar and beat well.

    Butter Cream Icing
    1 cup margarine (2 sticks)
    3# powdered sugar
    ¾ cup milk
    1 Tablespoon vanilla
Let margarine be room temperature before using.
Blend all ingredients together and beat well.

Both icings keep well in refrigerator.

This is a pretty big recipe...you can always 1/4 or 1/2 it to make it less. :) I didn't ever do the sticky rolls at the SEND House, but I really like them, so I included them here. And, it saves a step in the end because you don't have to ice, you just dump them out of the pan after baking. :) Let me know how they turn out!

Tell Kevin & Linda I say hello! Still really weird to me that you live up there. :)

    hugs!

  3. One of our family favorite:

    Easy Chicken Cassarole

    Ingredients:
    1-16oz. sour cream (or less)
    1 can cream of mushroom
    3 whole chicken breasts
1 stick of butter or marg.
    1 roll Ritz crackers
    1 Tbs. poppy seed

    Directions:
Cook chicken, cool and chop. Mix soup and sour cream together, set aside. Crumble crackers to very fine. Melt butter and pour over crumbs, then add poppy seed and mix together. Place chicken in pan, pour sauce over this, then crumb mixture on top. Bake at 350 for 1/2 hour or so.

and....all 4 kids love this...so it's a keeper for me=) I usually try to make it a little healthier by using fat free soup and less fat sour cream etc. Enjoy!

love your color choice in the kitchen!
