our little virginia trip

this past weekend Dave's sister Angela got married
not only because marriage rocks, but also because it gave us an excuse to go home :)
our trip was short
we were only there for 5 days
but they were days full of family and fun!

Angela asked me if i would make the wedding cake
so w/ the help of my mom, i went for it
it was a small wedding (around 50 people) so i decided to make 3 smaller layered cakes

symphony cake

vanilla cake w/ buttercream frosting

carrot cake w/ cream cheese frosting

the wedding took place back at Dave's parents' cabin
Wesley and Angela love the outdoors and spend a good bit of time back at the cabin
the laid back nature of the wedding and the beautiful outdoor setting fit them perfectly

i didn't do very well at getting pictures of the rest of our time in va, but here are a few...

enjoying the hammock swing

checkin' out the cows

eating grapes w/ Mummsy

Brighton thought the cornhole boards were made as a table just for her lol

a few of the corn hole spectators
Benjamin - Grandmother - Melissa - Mummsy

Rebecca roasting veggies over the fire for our delicious supper one evening
we had grilled salmon, roasted veggies, corn on the cob, Grammy's amazing pickles, cantaloupe, and fresh grapes off the vine

Brighton quite enjoyed eating corn on the cob!

licking up the last of the cantaloupe juice

thanks to everyone who made our time at home so wonderful!!!
i can hardly wait until next time :)

i was schedule to shoot this precious little one before our trip to costa rica, but the scheduled c-section got pushed back several days, and i left the day before this little beauty was born.
i'm so glad i had the privilege of taking her pictures soon after we got back!
meet aria...

she was welcomed by 5 adoring siblings :)
and her mom and dad of course!

we went camping

this past weekend Dave, myself, Brighton, another couple from here in Red Lake, and their little 2 yr. old Elise did an overnight canoe trip
the days were perfect
the night was a little rough ;)
let's just say neither of our children sleep well when they have free reign to tackle their parents and roll and pounce all over the place rather than being confined to their cribs!

but seriously, the days were absolutely gorgeous!

the little girls seemed to enjoy the canoeing for the most part
both got fussy once it was nap time though
Brighton finally gave in and sacked out on the bottom of the canoe :)
this of course was after she took a dive out of the canoe in the middle of the lake!!!
what would a canoe trip be w/out a dip in the freezing waters of a Canadian lake?
poor little thing was so cold
she just curled up on the bottom of the canoe until we got to a place where we could change her out of her wet clothes
i'm so thankful she had her life jacket on!
no idea what would have happened if she hadn't

one of the best things about a canoe trip?
trail mix :)

we had a beautiful camping spot for the night and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset :)

here's to hoping the canoe trips continue even after #2 arrives!
