it's gone!!!!!

finally!!! the ice has officially left red lake :) :)
it's been quite the long journey...

to start it off, dave and i returned to red lake to find a bunch of crazies jumping into the still-frozen-over lake...let's just say most of them were in the air longer than they were in the water!!!




they were jumping in for earth day. each of them pledged to do something like ride bike to work, recycle, etc, and then jumped right on in. there were 21 crazies in all :)
this was the end of april, a little over a week later, the ice finally left us :)

may 1st...it snowed :( not a happy day for me!

may 5th...the ice is turning black, and moving away from the shore

may 7th...there is a nice little water path where the ice road was

may 8th...still here...open water in the distance

may 10th...it's gone!!!!! pretty dreary out, but the ice is gone :) :) praise the Lord!!!!

how i love that state!!!!

2 weeks ago, dave and i left for a little vacation in the beautiful state of florida :) it was amazing!
we went down for the wedding of my two good friends, tony root and chalee helmuth (now root).

i'm pretty sure it was the most beautiful wedding i have ever been too. unfortunately i didn't take my camera to the wedding, so i have no proof of this fact, but i assure you that this wedding would be hard to beat!

wedding party table...the tables were so pretty! over the past several months, chalee had been collecting old bottles and jars for centerpieces for the tables. each table had anywhere from 5-7 jars/bottles, and each one either had flowers or cute little pinwheels in them :)

lights were strung up over the reception area, and were absolutely beautiful once it got dark

i cannot even express how wonderful it was to step outside, and for it to be warmer outside than it was inside!!!! i almost forgot what it was like!!!

on the way home from florida we stopped in at winnipeg and my baby got me a car :) :) so excited to finally have wheels!!!!

SPRING!!!

ok, well technically it is already here, but i don't think canada has gotten the memo quite yet...

we woke up to snow falling, and a light dusting on the ground this morning...

nonetheless, i do believe we will eventually see spring...i base my assumptions on a few things...

one:

my african violet is blooming :)

two:

it no longer looks like this outside...there is snow, but it is actually decreasing in volume...we've lost quite a bit over the past week :)

three: i walked to the store wearing only a hoodie yesterday :)

four: fewer and fewer people are trusting the ice road

so yeah, it hasn't gotten here yet, but i do believe it is on it's way :)

in other news, i got a flower pot that i really like...

so cute!!! and notice the cookbook behind it? i have been singing it's praises up here in red lake :) if it's a cookbook you don't have, you should get it...it is by far the most helpful and practical and amazing cookbook i know of

this past weekend dave and i went to winnipeg on a business trip. he needed to pick up some supplies for a job that he is getting ready to do. we had to pull a big trailer behind us...

poor lil' truck :( it was pulling more than it weighted itself! let's just say i have never even come close to getting as bad of gas mileage as we did on this trip!!!!!

BONFIRE!!!

This past week Dave worked for a couple, Matt and Diana, who wanted a pantry and a table/island made for their kitchen. They are such a sweet couple, and he really enjoyed working for them. This past Saturday he was planning on going over to their house in the afternoon and putting the finishing touches on the furniture. Meanwhile, Matt and Diana decided that they were going to have a bonfire w/ all the brush and dead trees that Matt had been cutting down and invited us to come over for a brush burning and hot dog roast :) we had such a fun evening w/ them! I never would have expected to enjoy a hot dog roast in negative degree weather, but the fire did a good job of keeping us warm. My feet were definitely numb and frozen and hurt like crazy when they thawed out, but it was worth it :)

and grew!!! i think it may have just been the biggest bonfire i've ever been too! needless to say, because most of it was brush, the flames died down pretty quickly, but it sure was fun to see!

Matt and Diana own and live on an island :) It's not a very big island, but it sure is cool! They live in a log cabin that they have been working on for the past 4 years. They don't have any running water!!! I don't think I would be too fond of having to use an outhouse in these temperatures, but they do it! During the winter they can use an ice road to get off their island, but in the summer, they boat :) Their cabin is pretty basic, and their isn't a lot of storage space which is why they wanted Dave to build a pantry for them.

i so loved how my latest project turned out that i couln't wait to post some pics :)
i just finished a pair of adult mary-jane slippers!!! so absolutely cute...i feel like a hippie/flower child wearing them lol

a while back somebody commented on one of my posts about my baby mary-janes, wondering if i made adult ones...at the time i didn't, but thought i'd look around for a pattern and see what i could find...and these cross-over strappers is what i found :) they are quite the time consuming project, and not the cheapest of projects either, but o so worth it :)

the bottom layer of the slippers is made out of jute, so they are pretty sturdy little boogers...the pattern says that you can even wear them outside!!! :) :) :) you just have to be careful not to get them wet.



the layer on top of the jute layer is made out of 3 strands of 100% cotton yarn, making them nice and soft :) i actually put a shoe insert inside of mine to give me some arch support, and i am absolutely in love!!! ready to get started on my next pair ;)

before i made this pair, i actually made another pair out of 100% acylic yarn. this was before i had any jute, so i just made the bottom layer out of yarn too.



unfortunately, these are a size 5.5, so my feet can't be happy in them, but not going to lie, they sure are adorable!! :)
