an evening at a park

this past weekend, some friends of ours invited us to come hang out w/ them for the evening at a park where they were camping.
I would just like to say kuddos to them for camping w/ a 2 year old and a 3 month old!
I'm very hesitant to give up my full nights of sleep which is bound to happen just about anytime we sleep anywhere besides home...especially when i know they'll be ending in 3 months when bump #2 arrives!
Bump #1 loves the outdoors! she didn't know any better this winter, but i'm kind of nervous about this coming winter!
she is becoming quite the little daredevil.
i couldn't believe some of the stuff she was willing to climb!
even after a fall [or 2 or maybe even 3] she was right back at it.

here's to summer!!!

we ran a half marathon on father's day

a little while back i decided to train for the Manitoba Marathon
it happens every year on Father's Day
i did the Red Lake Road Run last year, but if i remember right, there were only 13 of us who did the half marathon
i thought it would be fun to try out a bigger event :)
and bigger it was!!!
i'm pretty sure along the whole 13.1 miles i had at least 200 people within my view
according to the Winnipeg Free Press, there were 13,380 runners

the race was Sunday
Friday Dave, myself, and bump #2 headed towards Winnipeg for a 3 day/2 night weekend
we were so blessed to have a friend volunteer to keep Brighton while we were gone!
it was so good to be able to shop, eat, and hang out w/ each other without having to keep Brighton happy, fed, and well rested (a truly impossible task when traveling)
AND it was also sooooooo nice to be able to stay out later than 8:00!

the race started at 7:00 Sunday morning
we set the alarm for 5:00
we drove to a park and ride place where a bus then took us to the main event
standing at the start line

here's a short clip of the race beginning
love the music...made me want to run in slow motion :) :) :)

my amazing hubby cheered me off and then went to the grandstands to watch as people began crossing the finish line
basically he did that for the next 2.5 hrs...what a trooper!
he said it was pretty interesting though
people were constantly crossing the finish line
the 5kers, then the 10kers, then the half marathoners
the first full marathoner crossed the finish just after me!
i can't imagine running twice the distance i did in the same amount of time
26.2 miles sounds hard enough as it is w/out sprinting the whole way! lol

getting ready to cross the finish line
(i love that there is a couple behind me holding hands as they get ready to cross!!!!!)
maybe someday i'll get dave to do a half marathon w/ me!

and here i am w/ my bump, my medal, my number, and 13.1 miles behind me :)
i'll just go ahead and confess that i could barely walk the rest of the day lol...so sore!
i was hoping to run the race in under 2.5 hrs. and i did it!
my time was 2:25:51 :)

we went to the Unburger for lunch (best burger place ever!)
and then headed home so Daddy could at least see his little munchkin for a bit on Father's Day
he wasn't into doing Father's Day pictures, but he did let me take a picture of him and Brighton w/ her new little camping chair that we got her while we were in Winnipeg
he's the best daddy ever
i never cease to be amazed at the amount of love that he pours into both me and our little girl

a perfect sunday

yesterday was a good day
around 9:00 Dave and i made a last minute decision to drive out to Blue Lake to visit some friends who had camped there over the weekend
we packed a few snacks and picked up some Subway on the way out of town
it's a 2 hr. drive to Blue Lake
but i can't think of a better way to spend my Sunday than hanging out w/ the man i love most and our snot-nosed little girl ;)
we got there around 12:30 and had a relaxing and fun afternoon hanging out w/ friends

Bump loves the outdoors and basically explored all day long :)
she's never happier than when she's in the *warm* great outdoors
even despite her nasty little cold she had a great time

she spent some time chatting it up w/ her little buddy Lydia

as well as learning the art of making cheese sticks

there was a nice little play area for the kiddos
and all 3 little girls LOVED going to the slide

visitors :) :) :)

it doesn't happen very often
but every now and then
somebody makes it all the way up to little ol' Red Lake to give us a visit
this past week my sister Autumn and my mom made the trek
let's just say, Brighton was in high heaven!

the days finally got a bit warmer so we were able to spend a bit of time outside

two of the days they were up here, Mom and Autumn helped me make around 400 whoopie pies for a fundraiser bake sale
Brighton got in on a bit of the action too :)

it was special to have my mom up here to spend Mother's Day w/ me
this was my 2nd Mother's Day as a mother :)

for Mother's Day, Brighton ran up to Tim Hortons to get me a cinnamon french toast bagel for a yummy breakfast in bed
of course she wanted in on the goodness and ate about half of it!

it wasn't a very warm day
but we acted like it was and took a few Mother's Day pictures :)

Mom and Autumn, thank you so much for coming up to see us!
it was such a blessing to have you :)

baby bum cake

i just about bit off more than i could chew the other day!
i agreed to make a cake for a baby shower
so naturally i went on to pinterest to find something that suited my fancy
let's just say...it was an all day project!
i can now see why some cakes are so expensive

all that being said, i was pretty happy w/ the finished product
definitely not as good as the original, but not bad either :)

Danielle, you brought a beautiful little girl into this world!
i feel incredibly blessed to have you in my life
and i love that our kids get to grow up together...at least for a little while :)
