my little girl had a seizure

last Thursday i had a fussy little girl
it happens
some days are just happier than others in toddlerville
(well, i guess that's true in adultland as well!)
i probably should have realized that she was getting sick
but i didn't
until that evening when she started feeling extremely warm
i took her temperature and it was a little over 102F
we gave her some tylenol and put her to bed for the night
the next morning she was still burning up
so she got more meds,
and i was looking forward to a relaxing morning at home w/ a sleepy, cuddly little girl
Brighton is not a cuddler
too much energy
so sometimes it's kind of nice for me when she's not feeling the best because then she lets me hold her a snuggle :)
so that's what we were doing friday morning
i was loving it
and she fell asleep in my arms
so a carried her into our bedroom and laid down on the bed w/ her
we had just been laying there for a couple of minutes when the seizure happened
all of a sudden her little body went stiff and started seizing
her head arched back
her eyes rolled back
i couldn't tell if she was breathing
i picked her up, ran out to the kitchen, grabbed the phone, and took her back to the bedroom where i called 911
i was so scared, and had no idea what to do
for all i knew, she was dying
i now know that she wasn't, and that febrile seizures are actually rather common in young children, and that they are pretty much harmless
but i didn't know that then
it was the scariest couple minutes of my life
the paramedics arrived about 5 minutes after i called 911
by then the seizure was over and she was breathing semi-normally again
we went in the ambulance to the ER where we spent the remainder of the morning while they did some tests to make sure everything was ok
it turns out she had an ear infection which led to the fever which led to the seizure

today i am thankful for a healthy, beautiful little girl
(who is currently trying my patience w/ her whiney attitude this morning!)
her fever broke sometime friday night praise the Lord!

exhausted and waiting in the ER

and she's back!!!
:) :) :) crazy as ever :) :) :)

our little virginia trip

this past weekend Dave's sister Angela got married
yay!
not only because marriage rocks, but also because it gave us an excuse to go home :)
our trip was short
we were only there for 5 days
but they were days full of family and fun!

Angela asked me if i would make the wedding cake
so w/ the help of my mom, i went for it
it was a small wedding (around 50 people) so i decided to make 3 smaller layered cakes

symphony cake

vanilla cake w/ buttercream frosting

carrot cake w/ cream cheese frosting

the wedding took place back at Dave's parents' cabin
Wesley and Angela love the outdoors and spend a good bit of time back at the cabin
the laid back nature of the wedding and the beautiful outdoor setting fit them perfectly

i didn't do very well at getting pictures of the rest of our time in va, but here are a few...

enjoying the hammock swing

checkin' out the cows

eating grapes w/ Mummsy

Brighton thought the cornhole boards were made as a table just for her lol

a few of the corn hole spectators
Benjamin - Grandmother - Melissa - Mummsy

Rebecca roasting veggies over the fire for our delicious supper one evening
we had grilled salmon, roasted veggies, corn on the cob, Grammy's amazing pickles, cantaloupe, and fresh grapes off the vine

Brighton quite enjoyed eating corn on the cob!

licking up the last of the cantaloupe juice

thanks to everyone who made our time at home so wonderful!!!
i can hardly wait until next time :)

i was schedule to shoot this precious little one before our trip to costa rica, but the scheduled c-section got pushed back several days, and i left the day before this little beauty was born.
i'm so glad i had the privilege of taking her pictures soon after we got back!
meet aria...

she was welcomed by 5 adoring siblings :)
and her mom and dad of course!

we went camping

this past weekend Dave, myself, Brighton, another couple from here in Red Lake, and their little 2 yr. old Elise did an overnight canoe trip
the days were perfect
the night was a little rough ;)
let's just say neither of our children sleep well when they have free reign to tackle their parents and roll and pounce all over the place rather than being confined to their cribs!

but seriously, the days were absolutely gorgeous!

the little girls seemed to enjoy the canoeing for the most part
both got fussy once it was nap time though
Brighton finally gave in and sacked out on the bottom of the canoe :)
this of course was after she took a dive out of the canoe in the middle of the lake!!!
what would a canoe trip be w/out a dip in the freezing waters of a Canadian lake?
poor little thing was so cold
she just curled up on the bottom of the canoe until we got to a place where we could change her out of her wet clothes
i'm so thankful she had her life jacket on!
no idea what would have happened if she hadn't

one of the best things about a canoe trip?
trail mix :)

we had a beautiful camping spot for the night and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset :)

here's to hoping the canoe trips continue even after #2 arrives!
